Serving as a member of the Board of Governors provides a unique way to support LPBC and to help ensure its long-term sustainability and success. Alumni in good standing are encouraged to consider board leadership as a next step in your Leadership journey. 

The slate for the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee is the responsibility of the Board Development Committee. The current Board of Governors approves the slate for the Executive Committee and our active (dues paid) alumni vote on the slate for the Board of Governors. All active alumni are eligible to serve on the Board of Governors. Active alumni who have served at least one full term on the Board of Governors are eligible to serve on the Executive Committee.

Below you will find information about roles, responsibilities and expectations for both the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee (Officers). 

Roles & Responsibilities 

 

As a member of the board I will be committed to:
  • Promote greater awareness about our PROGRAMS and the organization in its entirety.
  • Enhance our PRESENCE throughout Palm Beach County in as many spheres and arenas as as possible. 
  • Build and sustain our PARTNERSHIPS.
  • Provide governance to the organization. 
  • Represent our organization to the community and ensure its financial viability and long-term sustainability.
Financial support and development expectations:
  • Take initiative in informing LPBC about resources and opportunities for funding program development.

  • Work to secure potential donors/sponsors and in-kind support to LPBC and its fundraising events and programs.

  • Review, approve and monitor the organization's budget.

  • Ensure adequate resources and manage resources effectively.

  • Attend at least FOUR events during the fiscal year. 

Other responsibilities:
  • Support, along with fellow board members, the organization's mission and purpose.
  • Provide leadership with the board and in the community on behalf of LPBC and its programs.
  • Ensure effective organizational and strategic planning.
  • Evaluate and assess the organization's progress toward meeting its goals.
  • Enhance the organization's public image.
  • Engage alumni as volunteers for various programs. 

Eligibility/Dues

All candidates must: 

  • Graduate from the LPBC Engage program
  • Pay all required dues; membership in good standing
  • Provide $500 unrestricted donations
  • Secure $500 in sponsorships

Mandatory Meetings

All candidates must attend:

  • Monthly board meetings
  • Signature events
  • Program orientations
  • Program graduations
  • Board orientation

Eligibility/Dues

All candidates must:

  • Be a graduate of LPBC Engage Program
  • Have completed at least one 2-year term as Board Member
  • Pay all required dues; membership in good standing
  • Provide $500 unrestricted donation
  • Secure $500 in sponsorships

  • Program graduations
  • Board orientation 

President

ROLE:

Direct the Board of Governors with LPBC staff to drive the mission of LPBC.

RESPONSIBIliTIES:

Serve as the direct manager of the Executive Director.

Direct the board on all issues related to LPBC.

Conduct annual review of the strategic plan.

Conduct regularly scheduled meetings of the Executive Committee and the Board of Governors. 

Vice President

ROLE:

Oversee governance policies, procedures and bylaws of the board.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitor board scorecard process and report on a semi-annual basis to provide updates to the BDC.

Establish and oversee the Bylaws Task Force.

Conduct annual review of current bylaws with Executive Director and Bylaw Task Force.

Conduct quarterly review of the Executive Director and Treasurer of specific financial policies and procedures to ensure audit compliance. This is to ensure all facets are reviewed annually to establish primary, secondary and tertiary checks on all financial processes. 

Vice President

ROLE:

Oversee the core programs to ensure relevancy and quality as outlined in strategic plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Serve a liaison between program/committee chairs and staff.

Design and support efficient program committee structure with Executive Director and staff.

Monitor monthly program surveys for ensuring quality programming.

Review Best Practices with staff and committee annually. 

Conduct annual review of all programs to gauge success (i.e. ensure relevance to mission, adherence to budget, alignment with audience, etc.) 

Treasurer

ROLE:

Oversee the financial policies and procedures to ensure the health and sustainability of LPBC

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as board finance liaison to Executive Director and accounting team.

Direct finance committee with Executive Director.

Review all financials monthly. 

Review all financial policy and procedures with Executive Director and Vice President on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance. 

Partner with the audit committee to ensure compliance.
